I had to capture an iconic image of an iconic monument. It was a must-have shot of the Golden Gate Bridge from the iconic Battery Spencer viewpoint. In a battle with the other photographers who were taking the same photograph, I needed to create an image that was unique to me. Funnily enough, I had to try hard to get as close to the top as possible; it was quite a sight to see if you had to see me struggle to get comfortable on the top! The contrast between the stillness of the crossing yacht and the rapid movement of the blurred cars on the bridge enables you to focus on your version of normality and tranquillity - whether that is driving over the ocean or travelling on the unpredictable waters. The orange and pink hues from the setting sun seem to bring the image together as it complements the striking red tones of the Golden Gate Bridge, making it easy on the eye, making it difficult to draw your attention away from this beautiful landmark. I wanted to incorporate the surrounding scenery of the bridge and give off a sense of space, focusing on this magnificent structure but in a more satisfying way.
