Welcome to the first blog of the website! I’m sure you’ve stumbled across our about us and the brief overview of our relationship. I will keep it concise and highlight our plans with the site and social media and why we want to voluntarily travel full-time in a small, cramped van.
What is the Basten Journey?
The Basten Journey is what we like to call ‘our visual diary.’ It will consist of vlogging, blogging, photography, food and recipes - the whole load! We both have awful memories, and we love looking back on our adventures and re-remembering each experience - there will be plenty.
Our home will be our van.
The Basten Journey won’t only cover van life; we want our brand to represent all aspects of exploration and adventure. We won’t shy away from flying and visiting other parts of the world. Time and flexibility are on our side, and that's the best part of going with the flow and seeing where we end up.
You’re telling us that you guys voluntarily want to live in a small van?
Crazy to say it, but yes! We need to be out in the world and see it in its most natural form, even if it happens to be in something smaller. Our biggest thing is to get out and start exploring. Yes, we could wait another year to save for a bigger van, which could take longer (you never know). Seeing as we have the means to get something, why not go for it? As we can make anything our home. 😊
It's not really about the van; it's about leaving our comforts as soon as possible to get out there. We can always upgrade in the future; the possibilities are endless.
What do you plan to do in 2023?
Our goal this year is to convert our van and make it into the home we’ve dreamed about for approximately three years. In that, we want to grow our blog, Youtube channel and social media platforms to highlight the beauties and realities of travel, taking on our goofy side. We want our photography to express the excellence of our surroundings.
We’d love to do many things with the Basten Journey, primarily wanting to learn and grow with our platform - demonstrating what truly lies out there. We want to be personal and approachable, giving tips that relate to or inspire others to venture out and, most importantly, responding to questions that need answers.
We are so proud to finally say: WE DID IT! We are making this possible and are so excited to see where the future takes us! It's hard to believe, but we have something to show for and not all talk.
