October’s Edge
Lake District, England
Autumn had completely taken hold here, cloaking the hillside in layers of yellows, oranges and rich red tones. The composition naturally stacked itself, the rich tapestry of colours rising in tiers from the still water’s edge, each tree adding its own tone to the display. A long exposure softened the water just enough to enhance the calm, without giving away the technique. Pockets of green broke through the warmth, offering a contrast that kept the scene from becoming overwhelming. Framed tightly, the image draws the eye to the vibrancy of the foliage, celebrating the fleeting beauty of this season in full expression.
