I focused my efforts on using a long exposure on the sea to mimic the rolling fog that San Francisco is known for. Taking a different stance in capturing an iconic monument, I decided to embrace the eerie atmosphere and look at the Golden Gate Bridge from a different viewpoint. There is a sense of balance as both forms of water seem to sandwich the structure in this strangely beautiful and soft haze, the darker points bring the details together as every object is silhouetted in the grey, moody ambiance.

Although eerie, there is a sense of calmness to looking at the bridge from this standpoint. The natural elements that have a sense of comfort, however, conflicts with the hard edges of a manmade structure. It puts you in a dream-like state as the black and white gives very little away, knowing that if the fierce red colour of the Golden Gate Bridge would present a completely different tone, and maybe one would argue, could easily blend in with the millions of images other talented photographers have taken.
